For the past few months I have been going to bed with a calm, clear mind. I came up with the most wonderful ritual that involves visualization, aromatherapy and dry brushing. I would go so far as to call it a meditation as it is spiritually, mentally and physically calming. The intention is to rid my mind of my cares and worries of the day.
After I wash my face and my hair is still up in a bun, I spray Dreams of Gion Aromatic Sake Mist over the back of my neck, shoulders, and upper arms. Then I will shut my eyes and take a few deep breaths. Japanese yuzu citrus, the main ingredient in this blend, relives stress and worry. Lavender helps quiet my mind for bed. Exotic Australian sandalwood and ylang ylang from Madagascar sooth with their intoxicating fragrances.
Next, I take Amayori’s Japanese Dry Brush and lightly brush down the back of my neck and over my shoulders. As I do this I envision myself “brushing off” my cares. I take each one, capture it for a moment and then I brush it away and let it go. If something is weighing heavily on my mind, I take the time I need to lightly brush the thought away until my mind is clear again.
Not only is this spiritually and emotionally soothing, the sweeping motion down the neck and over the shoulders relaxes me and is akin to a shoulder massage.
Having a way to intentionally stop the mind before bed leads to a much better night’s rest. A better night’s rest leads to a beautiful morning and an even better day. When you take the time to take care of yourself, your body and mind will reward you for it.
Wishing you the sweetest days & dreams,
